Hello all! Welcome to VPG Photography, my new lifestyle photography business based in Chicago.
I got my start in photography during the summer of 2009 at the Maine Media Workshops in Rockport, Maine. I spent the summer taking photography courses and exploring while also capturing the state fairs and small towns. That was the summer that solidified my passion for the art medium. In 2011 I started my journey at the University of Michigan Penny Stamps School of Art & Design. The summer after my freshman year, I returned to Maine Media Workshops and was part of the work-study program where I continued to learn about documentary photography. When I returned to school, I fell more in love with documenting the the stories of others while taking classes with Pulitzer Prize Winning Photographer, David Turnley for multiple semesters. Florence, Italy stole my heart as it became my home for the second semester of Junior year while I studied abroad. To have been able to not only photograph Florence for four months but other parts of Europe was truly unbelievable.
I spent my summer of 2014 interning at The Philadelphia Inquirer as a photojournalist where my photos where published regularly both online and in print. Months later during my senior year, I slowly developed my senior thesis which was a documentary photo series/ short documentary film called, "The M.I.S.S.I.O.N." which focused on a specific homeless community in Ann Arbor. I spent days on end with the community and built special relationships that taught me so much about myself and changed me for the better.
After graduating from college, I started working as a staff photographer/ visual journalist for The Press of Atlantic City. I was assigned an average of three assignments a day that included photographing on site, editing, captioning and submitting the photos daily, as well as shooting and editing videos. While at The Press, I also was heavily involved in the newspaper's TV show, -30-, that aired every Thursday night.
In 2017, I made the move to Detroit, Michigan to be with my husband and to be a part of a Fellowship with Facing Change Documenting Detroit. The entire summer I worked on a documentary series called, 'Rebirth of LaTanya' that was shown at Photoville in Dumbo, Brooklyn and at Dlectricity, in Detroit, projected on the Charles Wright Museum. While living in Detroit I spent the majority of my two years there shooting for SEEN Magazine, a luxury magazine in the Metro Detroit area. I was new to the magazine/ lifestyle industry and quickly grew to love it.
I now live in downtown Chicago with my husband and was inspired to FINALLY branch out and create my own business! I created this space to show my love for shooting portraits, proposals/engagements, food, events, products, etc. For inquiries please email, call or direct message me on my new Instagram account vpg_photography. Thank you to everyone in the Windy City for being so incredibly welcoming! I cannot wait to grow my business in such a wonderful community!
